Wednesday Music Evenings at Hornchurch Library
All programmes are held in the main meeting room on the 1st floor of Hornchurch Library,
North Street, Hornchurch and commence promptly at 7.30 pm and finish around 9.30pm
Admission is FREE! but a small charge is made for interval refreshments.
All music is recorded and played on high quality reproduction equipment.
Wednesday 18th January - 1912 Major Disasters but a Great Year for Music
George Saddington intertwines news of the Titanic’s sinking and Captain Scott’s fated
expedition to the South Pole with some of the music from the time and that of some of the
great stars that were born during the year.
Wednesday 1st February - Gilbert & Sullivan: Genius and Conflict
Stephen Raindle presents a programme that traces the sometimes strained partnership of
classically trained composer Arthur Sullivan and librettist William S Gilbert. There will be
plenty of musical excerpts from their famous Savoy operas.
Wednesday 15th February - Yet Further Bits & Pieces
Jim Uffindell presents another of his programmes that include a varied selection of light and
light classical music. Something to suit everyone.
Wednesday 29th February - A Tribute To The Musicals
George Saddington briefly traces the history of the great MGM screen musicals
concentrating on the 1948-1956 period and in particular celebrating the centenary of the
birth of the great Gene Kelly.
Wednesday 14th March - The Way We Were
Don Poole presents a programme of music from days gone by featuring the 1940s in
particular. Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby, Frank Crummit, Reginald Dixon are bound to feature
along with many others from the era.
Wednesday 28th March - Spring, Spring, Spring
Keen gardener Alan Tomlin waxes lyrical with programme of music dedicated to Springtime
that will include works by Vivaldi, Strauss, Mendelssohn and Grieg plus music from the
stage and screen.
The programme continues through April and May - details to follow.
